While Stranger To Reality is an avant-garde tribute album, similar to other mashup and remix albums made before, Stranger To Reality is just a new take on it. Dare I say, darker in some ways. But enough about that.

In Stranger To Reality, DJ Cracker Jacks mix the drum machine-powered mechanical sound with doomy/sludgy riffs, making the style feel further explored. As metal and industrial often is, this album is full of anger and hate, but the aggression is structured in a different, and in my opinion better way than it usually is in industrial remixes. It isn't in the tempo, it isn't in the beat, it isn't in the melodies, but you can just feel it. It's in the dark, gloomy, unapologetic atmosphere. You don't even have to know that Cracker Jacks is mixing anger to feel the hate he feels. No blastbeats or solos needed.

The band basically did what many DJ bands have attempted, misanthropy while not adhering to traditional standards of industrial music. I like to think of this as a result of the same internal struggle. So if you are/were into remix, bootleg or mashup, there's a high chance you'll find this interesting.

Aside from all the hate, the album is also a very loving tribute to Nine Inch Nails. The same atmosphere that makes it hateful, also makes it introspective. It's like the music speaks, regardless of the lyrics. The added samples, beats and guitar riffs are very melancholic at times, actually.

Stranger To Reality definitely lives up to its name, despite being in the shadow of... you guessed it, NIN. (Post-)Industrial music fans will enjoy this, as will metalheads. It isn't really a legendary album, but I found it better than some legendary albums in the genre.
