Never heard of Pogo & The Crawlspace Boys before, even though they've been around since 2021. This Salchicha band consists of Pogo - Guitars and Blades; Bundy - Bass and Casts; Zodiac - Keys and .22; Pickton - Drums and Bacon & Gein - Mixing and Wardrobe. They are described as a doom and death retrowave band, but I was getting a strong Goth vibe from the CD artwork, picture and title. Pogo & The Crawlspace Boys seem to specialize in original scores for non-existing films. This release though is apparently their first full album dedicated to a single concept. It is 10 tracks, 34 minutes in length, divided into 3 Acts with also a Prelude. Although it's atmospheric as Hell, I found everything up to to be darl and ambient. I mean, it's pretty good for retrowave. The richness of the bass did kick the album up a notch. The album seems heavily inspired by Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy, which is a novel concept.

That track that was really a highlight of the album for me was 'Dance', and I have to say I was rather disappointed that there wasn't much more of it. The majority of this is doom/death darkwave rock ranging from the basic to profound compositions and progressions you can imagine. Full of vigor and distorted power chords, it's easy really extract the theme as the music has this meandering quality to it. "Act V" had its moments but lives up to my expectations. "Tunnel" is rather bombastic but by this time, all I can say is, what? Strong riffs and dark ambient, is some of what Pogo & The Crawlspace Boys has going for them in that they create sludgy "alternate soundtracks to reality". Maybe in conjunction with the book it's even better, but I have my doubts. I did also get a lot of 'Paradise Lost' vibes from this. This album should definitely be the one to resonate with their fans. I only hope Pogo & The Crawlspace Boys continues to put out superb material such as this.
